In 2020 Dubai will host one of the largest and most fascinating events in the world — the EXPO International exhibition. It is the largest event where different countries boast their technological and technical achievements.

Budget for preparing for the EXPO 2020

Preparation for the international exhibition in Dubai is conducted on a large scale. According to the projections, about $35 billion will be spent on holding the EXPO 2020 and making the entire essential infrastructure. Most of these funds will be provided by the Government of the Emirate, and the remaining amount will be spent by private investors.

In general, the whole preparation is divided into two segments: exhibition pavilions construction and infrastructure development (roads, hotels, etc.). The exhibition pavilions will be located between Dubai and Abu Dhabi and will occupy an area of 438 hectares. It will be a trefoil-shaped building, symbolizing stability, mobility and wide possibilities.

An important task in preparation for EXPO 2020 is an increase in the number of hotels, as according to preliminary estimates exhibition will visit about 25 million people, of whom 70% are foreigners.

The list of the objects under construction also includes:

  • Deira Islands — four artificial Islands with the total area of 3 hectares, which will be built with modern hotels, berths, shopping malls and business centres. Also, a night market and a huge 30 thousand seat stadium will be located on the territory of the islands. The completion of the construction of Deira Islands is scheduled for late 2018, the costs of the project will amount about $150 million;
  • Dubai Water Canal — a water canal that will connect artificial Deira Islands, business centres and residential areas of Dubai. The completion of the construction is planned for October 2016. The Dubai Water Canal will cost Dubai $548 million;
  • Aladdin City — a hotel-shopping complex themed on the Legends of Aladdin and Sinbad. The project’s main highlight is air-conditioned bridges with moving floor connecting all the driveways and towers. The costs of the Aladdin City is kept undisclosed;
  • Museum of the Future — a unique place, which will contain the latest inventions from all over the world. The cost of the project amounts more than $200 millions;
  • Legoland Dubai, Bollywood Parks and Motiongate Dubai theme parks. The opening is planned for October 2016. It is one of the most expensive projects amounting to $1.3 billion.

Considerable funds will also be spent on the development of the city infrastructure: construction of new roads, metro stations, expansion of the Dubai International Airport, etc.

About 25 million people will visit EXPO 2020 during the 6 months of the exhibition. Such a flow of guests will result in strong growth in the tourism and hospitality industry and the country economy.
